The Uttarakhand government is the latest to join the league of announcing the 7th Pay Commission benefits for its employees. As per a The Times of India report, the Trivendra Singh Rawat-led government has cleared the arrears pending from July 1, 2016 to December 31, 2016 for its employees. The move will likely add an extra financial burden of Rs 300 crore on the state exchequer.

Besides clearing the 7th Pay Commission arrears, the state government has also made changes in allowances given to the employees. While, changes have been made in travel allowance, house rent allowance (HRA) and injury allowance, the dearness allowance (DA) remains the same. “Apart from the dearness allowances, we have made changes in other allowances being provided to the state government employees. These amendments would mean an additional expenditure of Rs 101 crore for the state government,” state minister Madan Kaushik was told TOI.

The news comes at a time when reports that the hopes of 50 lakh Central Government employees and an equivalent number of retirees, who are seeking a hike in minimum pay and fitment factor beyond 7th Pay Commission recommendations, have been dashed. Reportedly, Minister of State for Finance P Radhakrishnan has for the second time claimed that the Centre is not mulling over the proposal for an increase of 3.68 times from 2.56 times in fitment factor for the Central Government employees.

He had made similar claim in March 2018 as well when the minister said that the Centre is not considering a raise the minimum pay and fitment factor of 50 lakh Central Government beyond 7th Pay Commission recommendations.
